# Palworld Breeding Chart: Reading the Rank Ladder

Short answer: there is no printable Palworld breeding chart, because with 299 Pals there are **44,849 possible pairings**. What there *is* — and what every real chart is secretly a picture of — is a single ranked ladder of all 299 Pals. Learn where your Pals sit on that ladder and you can plan a path to any target in your head, then confirm it in one lookup.

> [!NOTE] Checked against Palworld **v1.0.4** (released 7 September 2026)
> Every static chart published before 10 July 2026 is now wrong in places. Pocketpair's 1.0 notes state: *"Pal breeding combinations have been reviewed overall. We've adjusted them to provide an acquisition experience that matches game progression."* 1.0 also added 72 Pals — 47 new and 25 variants — every one of which was inserted into the ladder and shifted what the pairs around it produce.

## The Ladder, Not the Grid

Every Pal carries a hidden breeding rank. **Low is rare, high is common.** The whole chart is this one column of numbers.

| Rank | Pal | Where it sits |
|---|---|---|
| 20 | Panthalus | The rare end of the ladder |
| 70 | Jetragon | |
| 150 | Frostallion | |
| 180 | Paladius | |
| 190 | Necromus | |
| 410 | Blazamut | |
| 480 | **Anubis** | The classic breeding-ladder anchor |
| 590 | Jormuntide | |
| 1,050 | Ragnahawk | Mid-ladder |
| 1,470 | Incineram | |
| 1,920 | Rayhound | |
| 2,060 | Mossanda | |
| 2,560 | Nitewing | |
| 2,760 | Cattiva | |
| 3,050 | **Lamball** | |
| 3,060 | Vixy | |
| 3,070 | Teafant | |
| 3,080 | **Chikipi** | The common ceiling |

Ranks are spaced ten apart, and in the 1.0 data no two Pals share one — so the ladder is 299 rungs running from roughly 20 up to 3,080. A child's rank is `floor((rankA + rankB + 1) / 2)`, and the Pal on the nearest rung hatches.

## Reading a Path Off the Ladder

Because the child always lands *between* its parents, three facts follow immediately, and they are all you need to plan.

**1. You cannot go below your lowest parent.** Two Lamballs will never make an Anubis. Nothing you own that sits at 2,000+ can produce anything below 2,000 on its own.

**2. Pairing a child back to its rare parent halves the gap every generation.** Take Anubis (480) and a Cattiva (2,760). The first child computes to 1,620 — 1,140 above Anubis. Breed that child back to the same Anubis and the gap halves, every time:

| Generation | Computed rank | Gap above Anubis |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1,620 | 1,140 |
| 2 | 1,050 | 570 |
| 3 | 765 | 285 |
| 4 | 623 | 143 |
| 5 | 552 | 72 |
| 6 | 516 | 36 |
| 7 | 498 | 18 |

Each hatch snaps to the nearest real rung, so a live chain drifts a few points either side of these figures — but the halving holds. Seven generations from a starter Pal to the neighbourhood of Anubis, off one rare parent. That is the whole technique, and it is why experienced players farm *one* good Pal rather than many.

**3. To hit a specific rung, work backwards, not forwards.** If your target sits at rank X, you need two parents whose ranks average to X. There are usually dozens of valid pairs, and the useful question is which of them you already own. Doing that by hand across 299 Pals is miserable; the [Palworld Breeding Calculator](/tools/palworld/breeding-calculator/) has a reverse mode for exactly this — pick the Pal you want, and it lists every pair that produces it.

## Why Static Charts Go Stale

**The grid is 44,849 cells.** Any chart that fits on a page is a small hand-picked subset of it, chosen by whoever made the chart for whatever they were farming at the time.

**1.0 moved the rungs.** Adding 72 Pals to a ranked ladder does not append them at the end — they slot in between existing Pals, which changes what the ranks *around* them resolve to. A pair that made one thing in early access can land on a new Pal now without the pair itself changing.

**Exceptions do not fit in a grid.** Around 80 parent pairs override the ladder entirely and return a fixed result, which is how subspecies are made. Charts either omit these or bury them in footnotes.

**24 Pals have a rung but cannot be landed on.** They are excluded from the nearest-rank pool, so no mixed pair ever resolves to them — the only way to breed one is two of that same species. If you aim at one of those ranks with a mixed pair you get the neighbour instead, and a chart will not warn you. Seven of them changed at 1.0 — all five Tower boss Pals (**Grizzbolt, Orserk, Shadowbeak, Faleris, Lyleen**) plus Bastigor and Selyne — and pre-1.0 charts still show mixed-pair recipes for every one of them. Those recipes do not work. Pocketpair removed them: the wiki's 1.0 change log records that *"Tower Pals can no longer be bred with special combination."*

**Ties are invisible on a chart.** When the computed rank sits exactly between two rungs — Lamball (3,050) with Chikipi (3,080) computes to 3,065, midway between Vixy and Teafant — the game breaks the tie by internal index order, which no chart shows.

> [!TIP] The ladder is the strategy; the grid is the lookup
> Use the ranks to decide *which* Pal to farm and how many generations it will take. Use the calculator to resolve the exact species at each rung. Trying to do either job with the other tool is where breeding projects stall.

## Planning a Real Project

A worked pattern that holds for any target:

1. **Find your rarest Pal.** That number is your floor. If your target is below it, you are not breeding this Pal — you are catching it.
2. **Pair it with anything common.** The first child lands halfway. It does not matter what it is.
3. **Breed each child back to the rare parent.** Each generation halves the remaining gap.
4. **Stop when you pass your target rung**, then adjust with a slightly different second parent to land on it exactly.
5. **Check the exceptions first.** If your target is a subspecies or one of the 24 locked Pals, none of the above applies — you need the specific pair, or two of the species.

Seven generations is seven hatches, and hatching is the slow part. `PalEggDefaultHatchingTime` — Pocketpair's "Time to hatch a Huge Egg (hours)" — is a world setting, so on a [dedicated Palworld server](/games/palworld/) a seven-generation ladder is an evening rather than a fortnight. See [Palworld Dedicated Server World Settings Explained](/knowledge-base/palworld/world-settings/).

The exceptions are listed in full in [Palworld Breeding Combos](/knowledge-base/palworld/palworld-breeding-combos/), and the mechanic underneath all of it is in [Palworld Breeding Guide](/knowledge-base/palworld/palworld-breeding-guide/).

## Common Questions

### Is there a full Palworld breeding chart?

Not one you can print. There are 299 Pals and 44,849 combinations. The [Palworld Breeding Calculator](/tools/palworld/breeding-calculator/) holds the complete set and is generated from the game's own data tables, so it does not go stale the way a published chart does.

### What is the breeding rank of each Pal?

It is a hidden value, one per Pal, spaced ten apart across roughly 20 to 3,080. Chikipi is highest at 3,080, Lamball is 3,050, Anubis is 480, Jetragon is 70. The rarer the Pal, the lower the number.

### How do I breed a specific Pal?

Work backwards. Find the pairs whose ranks average to your target's rank, then pick the pair you already own. If the Pal is a subspecies, look for its special combination instead — subspecies ignore the ladder.

### Why did my breeding chart give the wrong result?

Almost always one of three reasons: the chart predates the 1.0 combo rework of 10 July 2026, the pair is one of the roughly 80 special combinations, or the Pal you were aiming at is one of the 24 that can only be bred from two of its own species.

### How many generations to breed a legendary Pal?

None — legendaries cannot be reached from common parents at all. Each generation only halves the gap to your rarest parent, and it never crosses it. You can breed *toward* a rank, but a legendary needs two of that legendary.
