# Palworld Cake and Breeding Farm Setup

Short answer: one **Cake** costs **5 Flour, 8 Red Berries, 7 Milk, 8 Egg and 2 Honey**, and one Cake buys you one egg. Everything else on this page is about making that recipe repeat itself without you standing there — because the Breeding Farm is not the bottleneck in a breeding project. The ranch behind it is.

> [!NOTE] Checked against Palworld **v1.0.4** (released 7 September 2026)
> Version 1.0 (10 July 2026) added four new cakes with distinct effects and a second breeding structure, the Ancient Hatchery. Recipe quantities below are the 1.0 values from the game's item data, not early-access figures.

## The Cake Recipe

| Ingredient | Per Cake | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| **Flour** | 5 | Mill, 3 Wheat each — so **15 Wheat per Cake** |
| **Red Berries** | 8 | Berry Plantation (a Caprity at a Ranch also drops them) |
| **Milk** | 7 | **Mozzarina** at a Ranch |
| **Egg** | 8 | **Chikipi** at a Ranch |
| **Honey** | 2 | **Beegarde** at a Ranch |

Baked in a Cooking Pot or any higher stove. The workload is **2,000**, which is enormous for a food item — a single Kindling Pal will be at it for a while, so this is one of the few recipes where a second cook actually pays.

Three of the five ingredients come out of a Ranch, and that is the whole design of the thing. You cannot buy your way to a breeding pipeline; you have to build a small farm that feeds it.

## The Ranch Chain

A Ranch is a **tier 5 technology**, 2 points, and costs 30 Wood, 20 Stone and 30 Fiber. It holds up to **four Pals**, and each one drops its item on the floor while it grazes.

| Ranch Pal | Drops | Feeds |
|---|---|---|
| **Mozzarina** | Milk | Cake (7), and most good Pal food |
| **Chikipi** | Egg | Cake (8) |
| **Beegarde** | Honey | Cake (2) |
| **Lamball** | Wool | Cloth, for everything else at the base |
| **Vixy** | Pal Spheres, Arrows, Gold Coins | Capturing the parents in the first place |

Two things about Ranches that most guides get wrong:

**Sanity does not deplete at a Ranch.** Grazing Pals never need the Hot Spring. You can ignore SAN passives entirely on ranch stock.

**Work Speed passives do nothing at a Ranch.** They speed up the "found a drop" animation and nothing else. Putting a Remarkable Craftsmanship Mozzarina on milk duty is a waste of a very good Pal — put it on the Cooking Pot instead, where the 2,000 workload actually lives. The passives that matter for ranch Pals are the ones that keep them from getting hungry or falling asleep, so they keep grazing: **Mastery of Fasting**, **Diet Lover**, **Vampiric** and **Nocturnal**.

For the Flour half of the recipe you need **player level 15**, a **Wheat Plantation** and a **Mill** (tier 15, 2 points, 10 Wooden Board, 40 Stone, 10 Ingot). The Mill needs a Pal with **Watering** to turn the wheel, and the higher its Watering level the faster wheat becomes flour. Flour spoils in **40 minutes**, so put a Cooler Box next to the Mill and assign a Cooling Pal, or you will bake your first Cake and find the rest of the batch gone.

## The Buildings, In Order

| Structure | Tier | Cost | What it is for |
|---|---|---|---|
| **Ranch** | 5 tech, 2 pts | 30 Wood · 20 Stone · 30 Fiber | Milk, eggs, honey |
| **Egg Incubator** | 10 ancient, 1 pt | 10 Paldium Fragment · 30 Stone · 5 Cloth · 2 Ancient Civilization Parts | Hatching |
| **Mill** | 15 tech, 2 pts | 10 Wooden Board · 40 Stone · 10 Ingot | Wheat to Flour |
| **Breeding Farm** | 19 ancient, 2 pts | 10 Wooden Board · 20 Stone · 50 Fiber | One male, one female, one Cake |
| **Ancient Hatchery** | 76 ancient, 8 pts | 100 Paloxite Ingot · 50 AI Core · 30 Ancient Civilization Parts · 20 Ancient Civilization Core | The 1.0 endgame breeding structure |

You can have a functioning cake farm at around level 19 with an Incubator, a Ranch, a Mill and a Berry Plantation. The Ancient Hatchery is a tier-76 luxury with a **10,000 workload** — plan it, don't wait for it.

## Which Cake To Bake

The base Cake has no effect beyond producing an egg. The 1.0 cakes do:

| Cake | Pocketpair's description | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| **Cake** | No additional effect | Bulk runs, filling the Paldeck |
| **Mushroom Cake** | "Slightly increases the likelihood that newly born Pals will have higher stats" | Combat lineages |
| **Vegetable Cake** | "Produces two Pal Eggs at once" | **Doubles throughput — the default once you can afford it** |
| **Extravagant Vegetable Cake** | "Increases the likelihood of mutations and makes stat growth more likely" (Pocketpair's release notes call it the Deluxe Vegetable Cake) | Mutation hunting |
| **Special Cake** | "Increases the chance of inheriting multiple passive skills from Pal parents" | Passive-skill projects |

Vegetable Cake is the one that changes the economics. Two eggs per cake halves the ranch load per egg, which is the actual constraint on a breeding project.

> [!TIP] Cake does not spoil in the Breeding Farm chest
> Everywhere else it rots. Bake in batches, load the Breeding Farm's box, and leave the surplus there rather than in a Cooler Box.

## Running It Continuously

A Breeding Farm produces an egg roughly every **5 minutes** with a Cake in the box, and the rate is tied to the work speed you have set on the **Monitoring Stand**. The bottleneck therefore moves, in order: cake supply, then incubator count, then your patience with hatching times.

Two passive skills sit directly on the production side. **Philanthropist** gives Breeding Farm speed +100%, and **Babysitter** gives +30% egg production and +30% incubation. Both are described in full in [Palworld Passive Skills](/knowledge-base/palworld/palworld-passive-skills/). Bred parents carrying either one pay for themselves within a day.

Work out how many cakes the project needs before you build for it: the [Palworld Breeding Calculator](/tools/palworld/breeding-calculator/) will tell you how many generations sit between the Pals you own and the one you want, and each generation is at least one cake.

Incubators are the part people under-build. One incubator is one egg at a time. Six incubators in a row next to a campfire or cooler — eggs incubate faster at a comfortable temperature, and the incubator UI tells you which way to correct it — is what turns a hobby into a pipeline.

## Why This Wants a Dedicated Server

Everything above is throughput, and four of the numbers that set that throughput are **server settings**, not game constants. Pocketpair document them in the configuration reference:

| Setting | Pocketpair's description | Why it matters here |
|---|---|---|
| `MonsterFarmActionSpeedRate` | "Item production speed multiplier from grazing" | Milk, eggs and honey — the cake bottleneck itself |
| `PalEggDefaultHatchingTime` | "Time to hatch a Huge Egg (hours)" | The wait between egg and result |
| `BaseCampWorkerMaxNum` | "Maximum number of Pals per base (max 50)" | Ranch Pals, cooks and miners all compete for base slots |
| `BaseCampMaxNumInGuild` | "Maximum number of bases per guild. Default: 4 (max 10)" | A base that does nothing but bake |
| `WorkSpeedRate` | Work speed multiplier | That 2,000-workload Cake |

On a [dedicated Palworld server](/games/palworld/) those are yours. Raising `BaseCampWorkerMaxNum` past the default is the single change that makes a dedicated cake base viable, because a cake base wants a Kindling cook, a Watering miller, a Cooling Pal, planters, gatherers and transporters — before you have spent a slot on the ranch itself. Every option is documented in [Palworld Dedicated Server World Settings Explained](/knowledge-base/palworld/world-settings/).

> [!WARNING] Your base does not run while you are offline
> Base Pals work only while the area is loaded, and `bAutoResetGuildNoOnlinePlayers` — "If no guild members log in, automatically delete structures and base Pals" — will erase the whole farm after the offline window set in `AutoResetGuildTimeNoOnlinePlayers` if an admin has turned it on. Anyone telling you Palworld bases keep producing overnight while nobody is logged in is wrong. What a server actually buys you is that *somebody* can be online: on a shared world, a guildmate's session keeps your cake farm ticking.

## Common Questions

### What is the Cake recipe in Palworld?

5 Flour, 8 Red Berries, 7 Milk, 8 Egg and 2 Honey, cooked in a Cooking Pot or better. The 5 Flour is 15 Wheat through a Mill.

### How do you get Milk, Eggs and Honey?

A Ranch with a **Mozzarina** (Milk), a **Chikipi** (Egg) and a **Beegarde** (Honey). A Ranch holds four Pals, so one Ranch covers all three with a slot spare.

### Can you hatch the eggs a Chikipi drops?

No. The Egg a Chikipi produces at a Ranch is an ingredient. Only Pal Eggs from a Breeding Farm or found in the world go in an incubator.

### How long does a Cake take to make?

It is a 2,000 workload item, by far the heaviest thing you will cook early. Assign your best Kindling Pal and expect to bake in batches rather than on demand.

### Which cake should I use for breeding?

Vegetable Cake for volume — it produces two eggs instead of one. Special Cake when you are chasing passive skills, Extravagant Vegetable Cake when you are hunting mutations.
