# Palworld Passive Skills: The Ones Worth Breeding For

Short answer: a Pal can hold **four passive skills** at once, there are **114 of them** in Palworld 1.0, and maybe fifteen are worth building a Pal around. The rest are noise or actively harmful. This is also the mechanic that makes breeding worth the effort — a bred Pal with the right four passives is worth more than a captured Pal ten levels higher.

> [!NOTE] Checked against Palworld **v1.0.4** (released 7 September 2026)
> Version 1.0 (10 July 2026) added a batch of new passives and a whole new category, **World Tree Passive Skills**. Several existing passives also changed value — the elemental "Emperor" and "Lord" passives went from +20% to +30%, and v1.0.4 fixed Lucky's defence bonus, which was not activating at all. Values below are from the 1.0.4 game data, not from early-access lists.

## The Passive Skills Worth Chasing

| Passive | Effect (v1.0.4) | Use it on |
|---|---|---|
| **Remarkable Craftsmanship** | Work Speed +75% | Any base worker |
| **Artisan** | Work Speed +50% | Any base worker |
| **Serious** | Work Speed +20% | Filling a fourth slot |
| **Lucky** | Attack +15%, Defense +15%, Work Speed +20% | Anything — it is the best all-rounder |
| **Legend** | Attack +20%, Defense +20%, Movement Speed +20% | Combat Pals |
| **Demon God** | Attack +30%, Defense +5% | Raid damage |
| **Diamond Body** | Defense +30%, immune to flinch and knockback | Raid tanks |
| **Immortality** | Absorbs 5% of damage dealt as Health, Pal HP regen +100%, Attack +15% | Solo boss fights |
| **Vampiric** | Absorbs 5% of damage dealt as Health, works through the night | Dual-purpose Pals |
| **Insomnia** | Does not sleep, keeps working at night | Base workers |
| **Eternal Engine** | Max Stamina +75% (rideable Pals only) | Flying mounts |
| **Infinite Stamina** | Max Stamina +50% (rideable Pals only) | Flying mounts |
| **Philanthropist** | Breeding Farm speed +100% | Your breeding pair |
| **Babysitter** | Egg production +30% and incubation +30% at a Breeding Farm | Your breeding pair |
| **Ranch Master** | Farming Work Suitability +2 | Ranch Pals |
| **Lavish Hospitality** | Drop items obtained from this Pal +100% | Farmed drops |

**Avoid:** Slacker (Work Speed −30%), Pacifist (Attack −20%) and Brittle (Defense −20%) are the worst three. Sickly (−25% mount stamina), Clumsy, Coward, Downtrodden, Glutton, Unstable and Night Owl are all net losses that will occupy a slot you cannot get back without surgery.

## How Passives Stack

Two rules do most of the work. A Pal can hold **at most four** passives and cannot hold two copies of the same one. And passives that affect the same stat **stack additively** — Artisan (+50%) and Serious (+20%) on the same Pal is +70% work speed, not a multiplied figure.

That is why the endgame target for a base worker is Remarkable Craftsmanship + Artisan + Serious + Lucky: **+165% work speed** on one Pal, plus the attack and defence from Lucky for free. For a raid Pal the equivalent is Legend + Demon God + Diamond Body + a fourth of your choosing.

## World Tree Passives: The 1.0 Wildcard

Version 1.0 introduced a category the wiki describes as "incredibly powerful passive skills, but they come with a cost." Every one of them carries a real downside, plus a shared perk — World Tree resources will not vanish when approached.

| World Tree passive | Upside | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| **Demon's Hand** | Work Speed +90% | SAN drops 15% faster |
| **Twin-Edged Holy Blade** | Attack +50% | Defense −30% |
| **God of Destruction** | Attack +40%, Defense +20% | Max Health −50% |
| **Sanctified Meat Shield** | Defense +50% | Attack −30% |
| **Dimensional Leap** | Movement Speed +50% | Hunger 15% faster |
| **Hermit Sage** | SAN drops 50% slower | Work Speed −20% |
| **World Tree's Bounty** | Hunger 50% slower | Max Health −20% |

Demon's Hand alone beats Remarkable Craftsmanship by 15 percentage points of work speed. The SAN penalty is manageable at a base with a Clinic and a Hot Spring — which makes it the single strongest base-worker passive in the game, if you can find one.

## Where Passives Come From

**Wild capture.** Rolled randomly. Most wild Pals have junk.

**Breeding.** This is the real answer. Passives pass down from parents, so once you have a Pal carrying a good passive you can propagate it. Feeding a **Special Cake** at the Breeding Farm raises the chance of passing the parents' passives down.

**Mutations.** Around a 1% chance per egg, raised by an **Extravagant Vegetable Cake**. A mutated egg always produces something different from what the parents would normally give, and it **always carries a mutation-exclusive passive** — Idiosyncratic, for example, grants auto health regeneration +50%, Defense +25% and immunity to both poison and burn damage.

**The Pal Surgery Table.** A tier-38 technology described in-game as "a facility where surgery can be performed on Pals to change their genders or passive skills." Adding a passive costs gold by rarity — roughly 10,000 for red and white tiers and 50,000 for yellow. This is how you fix a Pal that is perfect except for one bad slot, without re-breeding it.

**Pal Arena and the PIDF Bounty Officer.** Both expand the pool of passives you can apply at the surgery table.

## The Trade-offs

**Four slots is a hard ceiling.** Every passive you add to a lineage is a passive you can no longer add later. Decide what the Pal is *for* before you start breeding it.

**Rainbow-tier passives are not always the right answer.** Musclehead gives Attack +30% and Work Speed −50%. On a raid Pal that is excellent. On a base worker it is a disaster. Read the second line.

**Some passives only apply to mounts.** Eternal Engine, Infinite Stamina, Fit as a Fiddle and Sickly are all explicitly rideable-only. They do nothing on a Pal that never leaves the Palbox.

**Old guides have the wrong numbers.** The elemental Emperor and Lord passives are +30% in 1.0, not +20%. Legend is +20% movement, not +15%. Lucky's defence bonus only started working in v1.0.4. If a figure looks familiar from 2024, treat it as suspect.

## Why This Needs a Persistent World

Breeding a four-passive Pal is not one session's work. It is a pipeline: capture parents, breed, hatch, check passives, re-pair, repeat — across days.

Two server settings sit directly on that pipeline. `PalEggDefaultHatchingTime` sets the hatch time for a Huge Egg in hours, and `MonsterFarmActionSpeedRate` multiplies ranch production speed. On a [dedicated Palworld server](/games/palworld/) those are yours to set, which is the difference between a breeding project that takes a fortnight and one that takes a weekend. `bAllowEnhanceStat_WorkSpeed` also decides whether players can invest stat points in work speed at all, which changes how much a Work Speed passive is actually worth on your world.

The less obvious benefit is shared work. On a server, one player can run the Breeding Farm while others hunt parents, and the resulting Pals sit in the same Palbox for everyone. Every option here is covered in [Palworld Dedicated Server World Settings Explained](/knowledge-base/palworld/world-settings/).

> [!WARNING] Don't leave a breeding project running unattended
> Base Pals are only active while the area is loaded, and `bAutoResetGuildNoOnlinePlayers` — "If no guild members log in, automatically delete structures and base Pals" — will clear a base outright after a set offline period if an admin has enabled it. Check that setting before you walk away from a long project.

## Common Questions

### How many passive skills can a Pal have?

Four. You cannot have two of the same passive on one Pal, but different passives affecting the same stat stack additively.

### What is the best passive skill in Palworld?

For work, Demon's Hand (+90% work speed) if you can get one, otherwise Remarkable Craftsmanship (+75%). For general use, Lucky — Attack +15%, Defense +15% and Work Speed +20% in a single slot.

### Can you remove a bad passive skill?

Yes, at the Pal Surgery Table — a tier-38 technology that changes a Pal's passive skills or gender for a gold cost scaled to the passive's rarity.

### Do passive skills pass down when breeding?

Yes, and that is the point of breeding. A Special Cake fed at the Breeding Farm improves the chance that the parents' passives carry over.

### What are World Tree passive skills?

A category added in 1.0. They are the most powerful passives in the game and each carries a stat penalty — Demon's Hand gives +90% work speed but drains SAN 15% faster, for example.
