# How to install mods for Satisfactory

This guide covers installing mods on your Satisfactory server. For first boot and connecting, see [Getting Started](/knowledge-base/satisfactory/getting-started-with-your-server/).

Satisfactory has mod support through **Satisfactory Mod Manager (SMM)**, which uses the **Satisfactory Mod Repository** at `ficsit.app`.

## Step 1: Install Mods on the Server

The cleanest workflow:

1. Install SMM locally on your computer from `ficsit.app/smm`.

2. Switch SMM to **dedicated server mode** and point it at your server.

3. From SMM's UI, browse and install mods.

SMM uploads the mod files to the right folder on your server automatically.

## Manual Install

If SMM is not an option:

1. Download mod `.smod` (or `.pak`) files from `ficsit.app`.

2. Upload to `FactoryGame/Mods/<ModID>/` via SFTP.

3. Restart the server.

## Client-Side

Every player must install the same mods through SMM on their local client.

> [!TIP] Lock versions to keep clients in parity
> SMM has a "lock" feature to ensure version parity.

## Popular Mods

- **More Pioneers**: Increase player slot count beyond vanilla limits
- **Linear Motion**: Drone delivery system upgrades
- **Daisy Chain Anything**: Power line chaining for any building
- **Mass Dismantle**: Bulk dismantle tool
- **Mini-Map**: Adds an in-game minimap
- **Modular Load Balancers**: Better belt balancing
- **Pak Utility**: Performance helper
- **Long Reach**: Greater interaction distance
- **Refined Power**: Adds new power generation methods

> [!WARNING] Game updates often break mods
> Always check mod compatibility before upgrading the server's game version.
