# Subnautica 2 Console Commands and Cheats: Why the Console Needs a Mod

Subnautica 2 has no official console commands. The shipped game has no console key and no cheat menu, and Unknown Worlds hasn't published a command list. The two official ways to take the pressure off are **Creative mode** and, in future, a planned Custom mode. Everything sold online as "Subnautica 2 console commands" or "Subnautica 2 cheats" comes from community mods. These mods switch on the developer console that Unreal Engine builds into the game, and they break when the game updates.

This page explains what Creative mode gives you with no mods at all, how the console mods work and how to install them, the commands their author documents, and the caveats that most command lists leave out. The biggest one: the console mods were last updated in mid-May 2026, before two major game updates.

> [!IMPORTANT] Read this before installing anything
> Console access needs **UE4SS** plus a console-enabler mod, on a **Windows PC**. It doesn't work on Xbox consoles or on the Experimental branch. After every official patch, Unknown Worlds tells modded players to remove their mods until they're updated.

## The Official Option: Creative Mode

If what you want is to build without grinding, you may not need a console at all. Unknown Worlds' support site describes the modes available in Early Access: *"the game offers traditional Survival and Creative modes. During Early Access, we plan to expand this with a Custom mode, allowing players more control over various gameplay options."*

What Creative removes, per the same support site: *"In Creative mode, there are no survival factors to manage."* That means no oxygen, food or water. Since update 1.1, *"Creative mode now unlocks all Biomods by default."*

Creative is an official game mode, so it's supported and survives updates. The console mods below offer neither guarantee.

## How the Console Mods Work

Unreal Engine games include a developer console that shipping builds keep locked. The most-documented Subnautica 2 enabler describes its approach plainly: it *"enables the in-game command console by hooking the running instance of the game to mark it as a development build."* The commands you then type are whatever the game already contains, plus standard Unreal ones. Nothing about them is designed or supported for players.

There are three community options, all on Nexus Mods and all needing UE4SS:

| Mod | How you open it | Last updated | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| **SN2 Console Commands Enabler** | **Enter** key | 14 May 2026 | Documents a command list; source code on GitHub |
| **Console Commands** | **F2** | 16 May 2026 | Most downloaded (58,511 by 28 September 2026) |
| **Cheat Toggles** | **F7** menu | 10 Jul 2026 | No typing; on/off switches for common cheats |

Early Access 1.1 shipped on 8 July 2026 and 1.2 on 19 August 2026, with hotfixes after each. Both console mods predate those updates. Whether they work on your current build isn't something we could confirm. Check each mod page's comments and changelog before installing.

## Installing a Console Mod

1. **Install UE4SS for Subnautica 2.** Extract it into `\Subnautica2\Subnautica2\Binaries\Win64` on Steam, or `...\Binaries\WinGDK` for PC Game Pass. Launching the game should create `UE4SS.log` in the `ue4ss` folder. The full walkthrough is in [Subnautica 2 Mods: How UE4SS Mods Work, Installing Them, and Co-op](/knowledge-base/subnautica-2/subnautica-2-mods/).
2. **Download one console mod.** Pick one; don't stack both console enablers.
3. **Unzip it into `ue4ss\Mods\`**, so its folder sits directly inside `Mods`.
4. **Back up your saves.** Unknown Worlds recommends backups whenever you change versions, and cheat mods write their effects into your save.
5. **Launch and press the mod's key**: Enter for the Enabler, F2 for Console Commands, F7 for Cheat Toggles.

## The Command List

These are the commands the author of **SN2 Console Commands Enabler** lists as useful, with their argument format. They were written against the launch build in May 2026 and haven't been re-tested by us. Treat them as a starting point, not a guarantee.

### World and time

| Command | Argument | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| `Day` | — | Sets daytime |
| `Night` | — | Sets night |
| `SetTimeOfDay` | `0.00`–`1.00` | Sets a specific time of day |
| `Slomo` | time multiplier | Speeds up or slows down the game |
| `r.Fog` | `0` or `1` | Turns fog off or on (engine setting) |
| `r.Nanite` | `0` or `1` | Turns Nanite geometry off or on (engine setting) |

### Items, vehicles and unlocks

| Command | Argument | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| `Item` | item name, e.g. `Scanner`, `Builder`, `Waterslug` | Gives you the item |
| `Equip` | item name | Equips an item |
| `UnlockAll` | — | Unlocks everything |
| `Spawn` | name, e.g. `Tadpole`, `Hammerhead` | Spawns a vehicle or object |
| `Summon` | Blueprint class, e.g. `BP_CoralCrab_C` | Spawns an actor by class. The author notes it *"only seems to work on assets already loaded in memory"* |

### Player

| Command | Argument | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| `SwimSpeed` | cm/s | Sets swim speed |
| `ThirdPerson` | — | Switches to a third-person camera |
| `surface` | — | Teleports you to the surface |
| `Kill` | — | Kills the player |
| `SetPlayerName` | text | Changes your displayed name |

### Commands to avoid

- `SetWorldOrigin`: the author marks it *"DANGEROUS"*.
- `DestroyAll` with a Blueprint path removes every actor of that class, for example every Halfmoon fish. It's easy to delete something you needed, so back up first.
- `ToggleDebugCamera` and `Warp`: listed as *"Disabled in shipping builds"*, so they won't work in the game you bought.

The author also notes that *"Some commands are hidden behind specific permissions"*, and publishes a separate command-pack mod that adds more.

## Cheat Toggles: The No-Typing Alternative

If you just want the usual cheats, the **Cheat Toggles** mod replaces typing with a menu on **F7**. Its listed options include God Mode, Unlimited Oxygen, No Hunger, No Thirst, NoClip, Fly, No Build/Craft Cost, Fast Build, Unlock All Recipes, Unlimited Battery Power, Unlimited Base Power, Tadpole speed and power, and time-of-day presets. It was updated more recently than the console mods (10 July 2026, after update 1.1), but that's still before 1.2.

## Caveats Most Lists Leave Out

- **Quitting can freeze the game.** The Enabler's author warns it *"will almost definitely cause the game to freeze when quitting to the main menu"* and that you may need to force-quit with Alt+F4.
- **Updates break it.** Unknown Worlds' hotfix notes ask modded players to *"temporarily disable, remove, or uninstall"* mods after each patch. Their support fix for startup crashes is to delete `Binaries\Win64\dwmapi.dll`, which switches off UE4SS and every console mod with it.
- **Co-op needs everyone's agreement.** The Enabler's author does *"NOT recommend using this in multiplayer unless everyone in the session permits the use of cheats and is playing with the mod installed."* Co-op is hosted from one player's save, so cheats run in the host's world affect everyone's shared progress.
- **Not on Experimental, not on Xbox.** UE4SS states it *"does NOT work on the experimental branch"*, and consoles can't load PC mods.
- **Terms of Service.** The game's Terms prohibit *"unauthorized third-party programs … (including but not limited to hacks, cheats … trainers …)"*, except where the studio's guidelines permit them. The studio's support pages acknowledge modded players, but it hasn't endorsed cheat mods.

## Are There Server Commands or Admin Commands?

No. Subnautica 2 has no dedicated server, so there's no server console, RCON or admin command set. Co-op is peer-hosted: one player hosts from their save and up to three friends join. GameServerKings lists the game as coming soon, but there's nothing to host until Unknown Worlds ships a server build. [Subnautica 2 Release Date](/blog/subnautica-2-release-date/) tracks what has and hasn't been announced.

## Common Questions

### How do you open the console in Subnautica 2?

The unmodified game has no console. With UE4SS plus a console mod installed, it's **Enter** (SN2 Console Commands Enabler) or **F2** (Console Commands).

### Are there official Subnautica 2 cheats?

No. The official alternative is **Creative mode**, with no oxygen, food or water to manage and every Biomod unlocked.

### What's the item command in Subnautica 2?

With the Enabler mod, `Item` followed by an item name, for example `Item Scanner`. It's a community-documented command, not an official one.

### Will using console commands disable achievements?

We couldn't find a primary source that says either way, so we won't guess. Back up your save if it matters to you.

### Do console commands work in co-op?

They run on the machine that has the mod. The mod's author recommends that everyone in the session agrees to cheats and runs the same mod.
