# V Rising Admin Commands: Full Console and RCON List

V Rising admin access is granted by a text file on the server and activated in-game with a single console command. This guide covers `adminlist.txt`, the `adminauth` handshake, every admin console command in the current 1.1 build, the separate RCON command set, and the commands people expect to find that V Rising does not have.

> [!NOTE] Vanilla V Rising has no chat commands
> Every native command is typed into the **developer console**, with no prefix — no `/`, no `.`. Commands that start with `.` come from mods running on VampireCommandFramework, not from the base game.

## 1. How Admin Access Works

There is no `ownerid`-style command that makes someone admin. V Rising reads a plain text file of SteamID64s at startup and periodically afterwards, and players in that list can then raise their own privileges in-game.

| Step | Where | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Listed | `adminlist.txt` on the server | Your SteamID64 is marked eligible |
| 2. Enabled | **Options → General → Console Enabled** | The `~` console becomes usable |
| 3. Authenticated | Console command `adminauth` | You gain admin rights for this session |

All three are required. Being in `adminlist.txt` does nothing until you run `adminauth`, and `adminauth` fails if you are not in the file. `MaxConnectedAdmins` (default and maximum `4`) is a separate reserved-slot pool that lets listed admins connect to a full server.

## 2. Add Yourself to adminlist.txt

The file lives in the `Settings` folder of your persistent data path, beside `ServerHostSettings.json`. Launching with `-persistentDataPath .\save-data` puts it at `save-data\Settings\adminlist.txt`; with no override, Windows uses `%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Stunlock Studios\VRisingServer\Settings\`.

One 17-digit SteamID64 per line. Nothing else — no names, no quotes, no comments.

``` title="adminlist.txt"
76561197960287930
76561198012345678
```

Find your SteamID64 in the Steam client under your username → **Account details**. Bans work the same way: `banlist.txt` sits beside `adminlist.txt`, one SteamID64 per line, and the server rewrites it whenever you ban someone from the console.

> [!WARNING] It is `adminlist.txt`, and there is no reload command
> Older guides — including our own earlier version of this page — refer to an `AdminUsers.txt` file and a `reloadadminlist` command. Neither exists. Stunlock's official server instructions have named the file `adminlist.txt` in every release from 0.5.x through 1.1.x, and `reloadadminlist` is in neither the game's command table nor the RCON command set.

> [!IMPORTANT] Edits are picked up on a delay, not instantly
> You can edit `adminlist.txt` while the server runs, but it is only re-read periodically, roughly on the autosave cycle. Allow up to about five minutes, or restart if you need it immediately.

## 3. Enable the Console and Authenticate

Press `Esc` → **Options** → **General**, tick **Console Enabled** (about eight rows down), then press `~` in the world to drop the console.

``` title="First admin session"
adminauth
listusers true
list
```

| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
| `adminauth` | Authenticate and gain admin privileges for this session |
| `admindeauth` | Drop your admin privileges without leaving the server |
| `list [category]` | List every console command, or the commands in one category |

> [!IMPORTANT] `adminauth` does not persist
> Run it again after every login, reconnect and server restart. If a command suddenly returns nothing, this is almost always why. Watch out for autocomplete turning `list` into `listusers` when you press Tab.

## 4. Where Commands Are Typed

V Rising has three command surfaces, and they do not share a command set.

| Surface | How to reach it | Command set |
|---|---|---|
| **In-game console** | `~` in the game client, after `adminauth` | The ~70 admin and debug commands below |
| **RCON** | TCP socket, `Rcon.Enabled` in `ServerHostSettings.json` | 10 server-management commands only |
| **Chat** | The in-game chat box | Nothing in vanilla — mod commands only |

There is no interactive terminal on the dedicated server process itself. Anything remote goes through RCON.

## 5. Moderation Commands

Typed in the in-game console after `adminauth`.

| Command | Arguments | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| `kick` | `<Character Name>` | Kick a player from the server |
| `bancharacter` | `<Character Name>` | Ban the player currently using that character name |
| `banuser` | `<Steam ID>` | Ban by SteamID64 — works when the player is offline |
| `bancharactertemp` | `<Character Name> <Amount> <Unit>` | Temporary ban by character name |
| `banusertemp` | `<Steam ID> <Amount> <Unit>` | Temporary ban by SteamID64 |
| `banned` | — | List every banned player, with an index number |
| `unban` | `<User Index>` | Unban using the index from `banned` |
| `setplayermuted` | `<Voice\|Chat\|Both> <Character Name> <0\|1>` | Mute or unmute a player |
| `setplayermutedbyid` | `<Voice\|Chat\|Both> <Steam ID> <0\|1>` | Same, by SteamID64 |
| `renameplayer` | `<Who> <Name>` | Rename a player's character |

Time units for temp bans are `Minutes`, `Hours`, `Days`, `Weeks`, `Months` and `Years`. Both temp bans and both mute commands arrived in the 1.1 October patch.

> [!WARNING] `unban` takes a list index, not a SteamID
> Run `banned` first and read the index off that list. Indices are positional and shift every time a ban is added or removed, so never reuse one from an earlier session. To work with IDs instead, edit `banlist.txt` directly.

## 6. Player and Server Information

| Command | Arguments | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| `listusers` | `<Include Disconnected>` | List active users; `true` also includes offline users |
| `playerinfo` | `<Character Name>` | Print detailed information about one player |
| `servertime` | `<Format>` | Server time — `Iso8601`, `ShortTime`, `FullDateLong` and others |
| `triggerautosaveonserver` | — | Force an immediate autosave |
| `debugviewenabled` | `<true\|false>` | Toggle the debug view overlay |
| `adminonlydebugevents` | `<true\|false>` | Restrict debug commands to admins at runtime |

## 7. Your Own Character

| Command | Arguments | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| `toggleinvulnerable` | `<true\|false>` | Godmode for yourself |
| `toggleobserve` | `<0\|1\|2>` | `0` off, `1` completely invisible, `2` ghost mode |
| `addtime` | `<Hours>` | Advance world time up to 12 hours; time cannot run backwards |
| `changedurability` | `<Amount> [EquipmentType]` | Repair or damage equipped gear — `All`, or a slot such as `Weapon` or `MagicSource` |
| `changehealthofclosesttomouse` | `<Amount>` | Heal (positive) or damage (negative) whatever is nearest the cursor |
| `consumeblood` | `<type> [quality] [secondary] [sec quality] [tier] [amount]` | Set your blood pool, including mixed blood |
| `completecurrentjournalquest` | `<Character Name>` | Complete a player's current journal quest |
| `completejournalquests` | `<Amount> [Character Name]` | Complete several journal quests at once |
| `forcejoinclan` | `<OfPlayerClosestToMouse\|OfPlayerWithName> [Name]` | Force yourself into another player's clan |
| `duel_instantiate` | `<Primary> [Secondary]` | Start a duel between two players |
| `kill` | — | Kill your own character (any player can use this) |

## 8. Item and Gear Commands (Debug Events)

`give`, `giveset` and the teleport family are not ordinary admin commands. They run through V Rising's **debug event** system, which has two switches in `ServerHostSettings.json`.

| Setting | Default | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| `DisableDebugEvents` | `false` | Set `true` and none of these work, for anyone, admins included |
| `AdminOnlyDebugEvents` | `true` | Set `false` and every connected player can spawn items |

| Command | Arguments | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| `give` | `<What> [Amount]` | Give an item to your character |
| `giveset` | `<What>` | Give a full predefined gear or material set |
| `givecombatpresetandallunlocks` | `<What>` | Combat preset plus all V Blood unlocks |
| `generatebloodpotion` | `<Type> [Quality] [Secondary] [Sec Quality] [Tier]` | Create a blood potion, single or mixed |
| `generatelegendaryweapon` | `<Weapon> [Power]` | Roll a random legendary weapon |
| `createlegendaryweapon` | `<Weapon> <Infusion> [StatMod] [Power] …` | Legendary weapon with chosen infusion and stats |
| `generatejewel`, `generatejewelatunitlevel`, `generatejewelvariants` | `<Ability>` or `<UnitLevel>` | Roll random jewels — for one ability, at a unit level, or every variant |
| `createjewel`, `createandequipjewel` | `<Ability> <Tier> [SpellMod] [Power] …` | Jewel with chosen spell mods, up to four pairs, optionally equipped |
| `createandfullyequipjewels` | `<Tier>` | Full equipped jewel set for boss testing |
| `applyweaponcoating` | `<coating> <target>` | Apply a weapon coating from your inventory |

`give` and `giveset` use dynamic tab-completion: type the command, start typing a name, press Tab to cycle matches, and the console inserts the full identifier. `give` only fills empty inventory slots, so a full bag silently swallows part of a large request.

``` title="Console — gearing up a test character"
giveset CottonSet_IronWeapons
give "[Name]Blood Essence - Item_BloodEssence_T01 - Guid: 862477668" 1000
generatebloodpotion BloodType_Draculin 100 BloodType_Warrior 100 3
```

Blood types are `BloodType_` plus `Brute`, `Corruption`, `Creature`, `Draculin`, `Mutant`, `Rogue`, `Scholar`, `Warrior` or `Worker`.

## 9. Teleport Commands

| Command | Arguments | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| `teleport` | `<Who> [Where] [X] [Y] [Z]` | The general-purpose teleport |
| `playerteleport` | — | Teleport yourself to the mouse cursor |
| `teleporttoplayer` | `<User>` | Teleport yourself to a player |
| `teleportplayertome` | `<User>` | Bring a player to you |
| `teleportplayertomouseposition` | `<User>` | Send a player to your cursor |
| `teleporttochunk` | `<X,Y>` | Teleport to the centre of a map chunk, e.g. `11,10` |
| `teleporttochunkwaypoint` | `<X,Y>` | Teleport to that chunk's waygate, ignoring item restrictions |
| `teleporttomapmarker` | — | Teleport to your own map marker |
| `teleporttonearestunitoftype` | `<CHAR_ prefab>` | Teleport to the nearest matching unit |
| `teleporttonether` | — | Teleport to the instanced tutorial area |
| `gatherallplayers`, `gatherallplayersexceptme` | — | Pull every player to your cursor, optionally excluding you |
| `gatherallallies`, `gatherallalliesexceptme` | — | Pull all allies to your cursor, optionally excluding you |
| `gatherallnonallies` | — | Pull all non-allies to your cursor |

`teleport` takes a selector, not just a name: `Self`, `ClosestPlayer`, `ClosestEnemy`, `ClosestUnit`, the `…ToCursor` variants, `AllPlayers`, `AllOtherPlayers`, `AllAllies`, `AllEnemies`, `"user:Name"`. Destinations include `Cursor`, `Nether`, `VBloodEnemy`, `WorldPosition`, `TilePosition` and `chunk:12,11`.

## 10. War Events and Castles

| Command | Arguments | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| `warevent_start` | `<Major\|Minor\|Primal>` | Start a war event immediately |
| `warevent_schedule` | `<EventType> <Duration>` | Schedule an event to start in N seconds |
| `warevent_startinchunk` | `<X,Y> [Variation] [All portals]` | Start a war event in a specific chunk |
| `warevent_setremainingtime` | `<Duration>` | Change how long the active event has left, in seconds |
| `warevent_closegate` | `<X,Y>` | Close the war event gate at those coordinates |
| `warevent_closeportal` | `<X,Y> [Close all]` | Close a portal, or all of them |
| `castleheartevent` | `<Type> <User> <Territory Index>` | Run `Abandon`, `Claim`, `Destroy`, `Expose`, `Raid` or `Upgrade` on a castle heart |

> [!CAUTION] Four admin commands flood your server until you restart it
> `decayusercastles`, `generatecastle`, `generatecastlesinregion` and `forcecraftingstations` spam network or crafting events continuously, with no way to stop them short of a restart. Use `castleheartevent Abandon` instead of `decayusercastles`. Separately, `generatejewelvariants` can crash the client if your inventory is full.

The last three of those, plus `setadminlevel` and `enableserverfeature`, are flagged internally as non-live: hidden from autocomplete and generally unavailable on retail builds. Do not build a workflow around `setadminlevel` — `adminlist.txt` is the supported way to manage admins.

## 11. RCON Commands

RCON is a deliberately small, separate command set. It cannot spawn items, kick players or teleport anyone.

``` title="ServerHostSettings.json — enabling RCON"
"Rcon": {
  "Enabled": true,
  "Password": "somepassword",
  "Port": 25575
}
```

The password cannot be empty. Port defaults to `25575` and may be any free TCP port.

| Command | Parameters | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| `help` | `[command]` | List all RCON commands, or detail one |
| `announce` | `<message>` | Broadcast a message to every connected player |
| `announcerestart` | `<minutes>` | Broadcast a localised restart warning |
| `shutdown` | `<message times> <message>` | Schedule a shutdown with warnings |
| `cancelshutdown` | `[message]` | Cancel a pending shutdown |
| `name` | `<name>` | Change the server name at runtime |
| `description` | `<description>` | Change the server description at runtime |
| `password` | `[password]` or `--clear` | Set, change or clear the server password |
| `version` | — | Print the server version |
| `time` | — | Print the server time |

> [!TIP] Use the panel for these
> The Console tab on [your V Rising game server](/games/v-rising/) is already wired to your server's RCON socket, so `announce`, `announcerestart` and `shutdown` work without configuring `Rcon` by hand, opening a TCP port, or installing a client like `mcrcon`.

## 12. Console Utilities

Available to any player, and useful for repetitive admin work. Bind modifiers are `Shift`, `Control` or `Alt`.

| Command | Arguments | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| `console.bind` | `<Modifier+Key> <Command>` | Bind a command to a key combination |
| `console.unbind` | `<Modifier+Key>` | Remove one binding |
| `console.alias` | `<Alias> <Command>` | Create a shorthand for a command |
| `console.multicommand` | `<cmd; cmd; cmd>` | Run several commands in one line |
| `console.profileinfo` | — | Show current aliases and bindings |
| `hidehud` / `showhud` | — | Hide or show the HUD — no admin needed |

## 13. Commands V Rising Does Not Have

These come up constantly. None exist in the game's command table.

| What people search for | Reality |
|---|---|
| `godmode` | Use `toggleinvulnerable true` |
| `weather` | No weather command exists at all |
| `speed` | No movement speed command exists |
| `tp` | The command is `teleport`; there is no short alias |
| `ban` | Use `bancharacter` or `banuser` |
| `adminlogout` | Use `admindeauth` |
| `connectedusers` | Use `listusers` |
| `observe`, `becomeobserver` | Use `toggleobserve 1` |
| `silence`, `unsilence` | Use `setplayermuted` |
| `health` | Use `changehealthofclosesttomouse` |
| `save` | Use `triggerautosaveonserver` |
| `announce`, `shutdown` | RCON only — not in-game console commands |

## 14. Mod Command Frameworks

Anything outside the list above — chat commands, economies, custom kits — means mods. The stack is BepInEx as the loader plus VampireCommandFramework (VCF), which nearly every command-driven V Rising mod depends on. Bloodstone used to be the second common dependency, but it is flagged deprecated on Thunderstore and nothing maintained still requires it; the shared-hook libraries you will meet in its place are HookDOTS API, and BloodyCore for the Bloody* family of mods.

VCF commands are typed in the **chat box**, not the console, and use a `.` prefix; `.help` lists everything registered. Install VCF into `BepInEx/plugins` and keep it current, since mods break against old versions. Mods are also client-and-server matched, so a gameplay mod on your server usually has to be installed by everyone who connects.

## 15. FAQ

### Why does adminauth say I am not an admin?

Three usual causes: your SteamID64 is not in `adminlist.txt`, the line has extra characters on it, or the server has not re-read the file yet. The list refreshes periodically rather than instantly, so allow a few minutes after editing, then restart the server if it still fails.

### Do I have to run adminauth every time I log in?

Yes. Admin status is per-session, not persistent. Reconnecting, changing character and restarting the server all drop it, so you re-run `adminauth` each time. `admindeauth` gives it up early if you want to test something as a normal player.

### Why does the give command do nothing?

Almost always because debug events are switched off. `give`, `giveset` and the teleport commands go through the debug event system, and `DisableDebugEvents: true` in `ServerHostSettings.json` disables it completely, even for admins. Set it back to `false` and restart. If it works for you but not for other admins, check `AdminOnlyDebugEvents`.

### Can I run admin commands from RCON?

No. RCON only accepts the ten server-management commands in section 11. Kicks, bans, teleports and item spawns all require a client connected to the world with `adminauth` run. Plan remote moderation around that, or use a mod that adds an RCON bridge.

### What is the difference between bancharacter and banuser?

`bancharacter` resolves a connected character name to its account, so the player has to be online. `banuser` takes a raw SteamID64 and works whether or not they are connected, which makes it the right choice after someone has logged off. Both write to `banlist.txt`.

### Can I give another player admin rights without editing files?

Not reliably. `setadminlevel` exists in the command table with levels `None`, `Moderator`, `Admin` and `SuperAdmin`, but it is flagged as a non-live command — hidden from autocomplete and generally unavailable on retail server builds. Add their SteamID64 to `adminlist.txt` instead.
