Conan Exiles Server Setup

Conan Exiles is a sword-and-sorcery survival game with thrall management, building, and an active mod scene on the Steam Workshop.

First Boot

  1. Open your Conan Exiles server in the panel.
  2. Click Start.
  3. First boot pulls the dedicated server (about 50 GB). 25 to 35 minutes.
  4. When you see LogServerStats: ... lines streaming, the server is live.

To connect: in Conan Exiles, Online Play > Server Browser > Direct Connect, enter IP and port.

Map Selection

Conan Exiles ships with The Exiled Lands (the original map). The Isle of Siptah DLC adds a separate map.

To switch:

  1. In the Startup tab, find the Map field.
  2. Common values:
    • ConanSandbox (Exiled Lands)
    • DLC_Siptah/Siptah/Maps/Siptah (Isle of Siptah)
  3. Save and restart.

Map switches use separate save data; you can run two servers on different maps without crossover.

Wipe / Reset

To wipe:

  1. Stop the server.
  2. Navigate to ConanSandbox/Saved/.
  3. Delete game.db (or rename to keep as backup).
  4. Start. A new world database is created.

For player-only wipes (keep the map), use Pippi's admin commands to wipe character data.

Performance Tuning

  • Raise NetServerMaxTickRate to 30 for smoother gameplay on 30+ player servers
  • Enable DeactivateThrallsBuffsWhenLoggedOff=True to reduce idle CPU
  • Schedule nightly restarts; Conan Exiles has known memory creep over long uptimes
  • Lower MaxNudity if your server's region restricts adult content

Backups

The game.db file in ConanSandbox/Saved/ is the entire world. It grows to many GB on active servers. Use the panel Backups tab daily; always backup before installing or removing mods.

Common Issues

  • "Failed to download all subscribed Workshop items" on client: Players need to manually subscribe via the workshop, then verify the game files.
  • Server stuck loading: Mod conflict. Boot without mods to confirm, then add mods back one at a time.
  • Database corruption: Restore the game.db from backup. Corruption is rare but can happen after crashes during builds.
  • High CPU after a few days: Restart the server. Long uptimes cause memory and entity bloat.
