Already running a game server somewhere else?
We will move it. Your saves, your config, your plugins — copied across from your current host by one of our people, at no charge. Your old server stays up the whole time.
This is our managed game server hosting. Dedicated servers are unmanaged — you have root and the machine is yours to run, so we do not migrate those. What that means if you are buying one.

How a migration goes
Four steps. This is the same sequence support has walked customers through for years, written down.
-
1. Order the game server you want to end up on
A migration needs somewhere to migrate into, so this genuinely is step one. Your existing server carries on running at your old host the whole time — you cancel it when you are happy, not before.
-
2. Send us the login details for your current host
Open a ticket with the FTP or SFTP address, port, username and password from your existing provider. If you would rather not hand those over, upload a zip of your server files instead and we will take it from there.
-
3. We copy your files across
Saves, config and your mod or plugin directory, pulled from your old host and put in the right places on ours. Stop the old server first so the last save it writes is a complete one.
-
4. You check it before anyone else does
We tell you when it is up and you verify it yourself. Anything missing, we go back and get it — that back-and-forth is a normal part of the job, not a failure.
What we need from you
Have this ready and the whole thing gets a lot shorter. Missing the world size and seed is the single most common reason a migration stalls halfway.
- FTP or SFTP host, port, username and password for your current server.
- Your server name, as you want it to appear in the browser.
- For Rust and similar titles: the world size and seed you were running. These are not always in the config file, and without them the server will generate a fresh map instead of loading your save.
- A rough idea of when you want to cut over, if you would like us to schedule it.
What we are not going to pretend
Every item here is something that has actually tripped up a migration we ran. You would rather read it now than find out mid-move.
Your IP address will change
This is the one that catches people out. Players who saved your old server to their Steam favourites will not see the new one — they have to add it again. Tell your community before you move, not after.
There is downtime, and it is not zero
You stop the old server so its final save is clean, we copy, you start the new one. The copy itself is usually under an hour but depends entirely on how fast your old host lets us pull files.
We move your plugins, we do not configure them
Your plugin files and their configs come across as they are. Tuning what those plugins actually do is yours to own — we are not going to pretend we know your server better than you do.
Some hosts make this harder than others
A few providers block plugin binaries over FTP, or rotate the password while a transfer is in progress. If we hit that, we will tell you exactly what your old host needs to change.
Windows to Linux is not always a clean copy
We run most game platforms on Linux. If your current host runs Windows, some paths and settings will not carry and will need setting again. We will flag what did not survive.
It is arranged, not automated
There is no migration button and no queue with a ticket number. Someone reads your ticket and does the work, so the honest answer on timing is that we book it in with you.
We do not migrate dedicated servers
Everything above is our managed game server hosting, where we hold the panel and the filesystem and can genuinely move your files for you. A dedicated server is a different product and none of it carries over.
It is unmanaged
You get full root access and the machine is yours to administer. We are not the ones logging in to move your data onto it, so there is no migration here to book.
What you actually get
The machine, with the operating system template you picked at checkout, on a new IP address. Installing your software and copying your own data across is your work.
If you would rather not run it
Managed Dedicated is a separate product where we keep the OS, security patches and the game panel maintained. It is not a migration service either.
If you are not sure which of the two you want, ask before you order rather than after — talk to us.
Questions people actually ask
Taken from the migration tickets our support team has answered.
No. We have never invoiced a migration, transfer or setup fee — not in any year we have been trading. It is treated as part of getting you set up, the same as any other onboarding question support answers.
Then do not. Download your server files from your current host yourself, upload them as a zip, and we will put them in the right place on the new server. Plenty of customers do it this way and it works fine.
The copy is usually under an hour, but it is governed by how quickly your old host serves the files, so a large or heavily modded server on a slow provider takes longer. We will give you a realistic estimate once we can see what we are pulling.
That is the whole point of doing it this way rather than starting fresh. We copy your save data across intact. Stop the old server before the final copy so nothing is written after we take it.
Yes — player data lives in the save files we are moving. What they do lose is the server sitting in their favourites list, because the IP changes. They will need to search for it or add it by its new address.
No. Your server gets a new address on our network, and that is the change your players will actually notice — anyone who saved the old address to their favourites has to add the new one. Tell your community before you move.
Yes, and you should. Nothing about the migration touches your old server, so it keeps running while you check the new one. Move your community over only once you are satisfied.
Open a ticket and ask — we would rather agree a time with you than quote a turnaround we have not staffed. Most migrations in our history were finished the same day the login details arrived, but we are not going to promise that as a service level.
No. Dedicated servers are unmanaged: you get full root access and the machine is yours to administer. We are not the ones logging in and moving your files onto it, so there is no migration for a dedicated server to book with us. Everything on this page is about our managed game server hosting.
You get the machine with the operating system template you chose, on a new IP address, and you take it from there — installing your software and moving your own data across is your work, not ours. If you would rather someone else ran the machine, Managed Dedicated is a separate product where we keep the OS, security patches and the game panel maintained. That is not a migration service either.
Ready when you are
Order the game server you want to move onto, then open a ticket and tell us where your current one lives. If you would rather sanity-check the plan first, ask us before you buy anything.
