VEIN Console Commands: Cheats, Admin Menu and Server Settings
Every VEIN console command confirmed by the patch notes, how to make yourself admin in Game.ini, the \ admin menu, and vein.* server settings.
VEIN has real console commands, but Ramjet Studios has never published a full list, and most of the "VEIN console commands" pages you'll find mix genuine VEIN cheats with generic Unreal Engine commands. This page sticks to what the developer has actually shipped. Every command name below comes from VEIN's own patch notes or server documentation, spelled the way the patch notes spell it.
On a dedicated server there are three tools, and they work together. The ~ console runs cheats. The \ admin menu** does most of the same things with buttons. **Game.ini/Engine.ini decide who counts as an admin and which gameplay settings the server boots with. Since mid-2026, none of the commands work for a player on a multiplayer server unless the server lists them as an admin.
Build this page was checked against
VEIN 0.025, released 26 September 2026. VEIN is in Early Access and adds or renames cheats in most hotfixes, so type a few letters into the console and let autocomplete show you what your build has.
Step 1: make yourself an admin
In multiplayer, the console and the admin menu only work for admins. Ramjet's patch notes from May 2026 say so directly: they "added a restriction to console commands to disallow them executing if run by someone connected to multiplayer who isn't an admin." So start by adding yourself to the admin list.
- Find your SteamID64, the 17-digit number starting with
7656…. Sites like steamid.io will look it up from your profile URL. - In the GameServerKings panel, stop the server.
- Open Files and go to
Vein/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/Game.ini. - Under the
[/Script/Vein.VeinGameSession]section, change the placeholderAdminSteamIDs=1234line and add a super-admin line:
[/Script/Vein.VeinGameSession]
SuperAdminSteamIDs=76561198000000001
AdminSteamIDs=76561198000000002
+AdminSteamIDs=76561198000000003 - Save, then start the server.
The rules, according to Ramjet's server documentation:
- Super admins are admins who can also promote and demote other admins from inside the game. You don't need to be in both lists, so putting your own ID under
SuperAdminSteamIDsis enough. - Extra entries need a leading
+. The first line isAdminSteamIDs=, and every line after it is+AdminSteamIDs=. That's standard Unreal array syntax. Without the+, each line overwrites the one before it and only the last ID counts. - There is no admin password and no login command. Admin status comes only from your SteamID.
Which lines the panel overwrites
The GSK egg rewrites a few lines of
Game.inion every start:ServerName=,Password=,MaxPlayers=,BindAddr=andGameServerQueryPort=. Change those on the Startup tab, not in the file. It doesn't touch the admin lines or anything under[/Script/Vein.VeinGameStateBase], so your edits to those survive restarts.
Opening the console and the admin menu
| Key | What opens | Who can use it on a server |
|---|---|---|
~ (tilde) |
The text console, with autocomplete | Admins. Non-admins' commands are refused |
\ (backslash) |
The admin menu | Admins. Non-admins get a "not admin" notification (added in 0.023) |
The tilde key can be turned off as the console key in the game's settings (an option since 0.006, fixed again in 0.024 Hotfix 2). If ~ does nothing, check that option before you assume you're not an admin.
openadminmenu typed into the console also opens the admin menu. That one comes from player reports rather than the patch notes.
VEIN cheats that exist (from the patch notes)
These are the cheats Ramjet has named in its changelogs, with the version that added each one. In the console, VEIN only checks whether you're an admin. It doesn't have separate "cheats enabled" switches.

To find item codes for GiveItem, look up the item on the official VEIN wiki. Each item page lists a Console Code, such as BP_Lantern, BP_Melee_Pickaxe or BP_Firearm_PumpShotgun. You can also type GiveItem BP_ in the console and let autocomplete list the matches.
god, ghostandslomoaren't in any VEIN patch noteSeveral lists include them because every Unreal Engine game ships a generic cheat manager. VEIN's patch notes do mention god mode, flight, noclip and invisibility, but as admin menu toggles (the "Self" options), not as console commands. Use the menu for those.

What the admin menu does instead of commands
For day-to-day server admin, the \ menu is where Ramjet has put its effort, and it covers more than the console. According to the patch notes from 0.004 to 0.025, it includes:
- Players: heal one player or everyone, add or remove XP, give items to other players, teleport to a player or a point of interest, kick, ban (plus a ban list, and IP bans since 0.019 Hotfix 7), server mute, and grant or remove admin (super admins only).
- Self: god mode, noclip or flight, collision, invisibility, super speed and super jump, and "See All" (shows every player, zombie and animal on the map).
- World: weather and time controls, spawning items, vehicles, furniture, containers, zombies and animals, and clean-up buttons (dropped items, corpses, decals, death loot bags, abandoned utility cabinets, items in a radius).
- Server: live server FPS, RAM and CPU, a save button for the dedicated server, a broadcast message to all players, permission zones (since 0.023), and a Config section for gameplay settings.
Since 0.022 Hotfix 5, the server logs every admin action. You'll see those entries in the panel console.
Server settings: the vein.* console variables
Many settings that look like commands, such as PvP, zombie spawn rate and time speed, are console variables. You can change them live in the console or in the admin menu's Config section. To make them the server's defaults, Ramjet's documentation says to put them in Engine.ini, in the same folder as Game.ini, like this:
[ConsoleVariables]
vein.PvP=0
vein.Time.TimeMultiplier=8
vein.AISpawner.SpawnCapMultiplierZombie=1.5 On a GSK server, Engine.ini is created by our installer and also affects the server's console output, and we haven't tested editing it yet. So don't edit it yourself: change settings live in the admin menu's Config section, and if you want a setting to be the server's default, contact support with the lines you want (in the format above) and we'll add them for you.
Some useful ones, with their defaults from Ramjet's Console Variable List:
| Variable | Default | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
vein.PvP |
1 | Players can damage other players |
vein.BuildObjectPvP |
1 | Players can damage other players' bases |
vein.AISpawner.Enabled |
1 | AI spawns at all |
vein.AISpawner.SpawnCapMultiplierZombie |
1 | Zombie spawn cap multiplier |
vein.ZombieInfectionChance |
0.01 | Chance a zombie attack infects you |
vein.Time.TimeMultiplier |
16 | How fast the game world runs |
vein.Time.ContinueWithNoPlayers |
0 | Keep the clock running on an empty server |
vein.Stats.XPMultiplier |
1 | XP gain multiplier |
vein.Scarcity.Difficulty |
2 | Loot: 0 none, 1 more, 2 standard, 3 less, 4 impossible |
vein.Permadeath |
0 | Players can't respawn |
vein.Calendar.WaterShutoffTimeDays |
30 | Days until the water goes off |
vein.Calendar.ElectricalShutoffTimeDays |
46 | Days until the power goes off |
vein.Autosave.Interval |
300 | Seconds between autosaves |
vein.ContainersRespawn.Interval |
10800 | Seconds before empty containers refill |
That list dates from October 2025 and isn't complete. Ramjet added vein.Activity.AFKKickTimeSeconds for servers in 0.022 Hotfix 5, and more since then.
Two behaviours catch people out:
- Default-value lines disappear. Ramjet notes that Unreal deletes config lines that just restate the default, so a line like
vein.PvP=1can vanish from the file after a restart. Nothing is broken when that happens. - Dedicated servers keep settings in these variables, not in the save (since 0.016 Hotfix 5). Moving a save to a new server doesn't carry its settings with it.

Can you run commands from the panel console?
Plan on doing admin work in-game. The GSK panel console shows the server's log output (the egg starts VEIN with -log), but VEIN doesn't document a way to type commands into a running dedicated server. Ramjet removed the RCON port binding in 0.019 Hotfix 2. The "experimental dedicated server wrapper to run commands via game control panels" mentioned in the 0.013 notes was never documented, and the GSK egg doesn't use it. What the panel does give you is start, stop and restart, the Startup variables, file access and backups.
Troubleshooting
- **The
\menu says you're not an admin.** Your ID isn't inGame.ini, or it's there without the leading+on a second or later line. Check that you editedVein/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/Game.ini, not a Windows path from another guide, and that you restarted the server afterwards. - A command from a YouTube list does nothing. It's probably a generic Unreal command, or it was renamed in a later build. Type the first few letters and see what autocomplete offers.
- Your config edits vanished. Either you edited a line the panel rewrites (see the tip in Step 1), or you set a value to its default and Unreal removed the line.
- You're about to run a destructive cheat. Take a backup first.
DeleteAllSaveGamesdoes exactly what it says.
