Is Palworld Crossplay? Steam, Xbox, PS5 & Mac Explained
Yes - Palworld has crossplay on Steam, Xbox / Game Pass, PS5 and Mac. The platform matrix, crossplay on a dedicated server, and the truth about cross-save.
Short answer: yes. Palworld has full crossplay across Steam, Xbox / Game Pass, PlayStation 5 and Mac. Here's the exact platform matrix, how to play cross-platform on a dedicated server, and the honest truth about cross-save.
Yes — Palworld supports crossplay
Since the v0.5.0 update (March 2025), players on Steam (PC), Xbox / Game Pass, PlayStation 5 and Mac can all play together in the same world or on the same dedicated server. The only thing that doesn't travel across platforms is your save file — more on that below.
If you're just here for a straight answer, you have it. The rest of this guide covers which platforms pair with which, the difference between inviting friends to a shared world and running a dedicated server (the better route for mixed platforms and big groups), how console players actually join, and the one area where Palworld is still limited: cross-progression.
Is Palworld Crossplay?
Yes. Palworld is cross-platform. A Steam player, an Xbox player, a PS5 player and a Mac player can all be in the same session at the same time — capturing Pals, building the same base, and fighting the same bosses.
This wasn't always the case. Crossplay arrived with the major v0.5.0 update, released in March 2025. Before that, at the January 2024 early-access launch, the Steam and Xbox versions were completely separate and could not play together. The v0.5.0 update unified everything onto a single cross-platform server layer and, for the first time, brought dedicated-server support to PS5 and Mac. Palworld has since left early access with the 1.0 release on 10 July 2026, which kept crossplay intact across all four platforms.
Quick facts
Crossplay: Yes, since v0.5.0 (March 2025). Current version: 1.0, released 10 July 2026. Platforms: Steam, Xbox / Microsoft Store / Game Pass (PC + console), PS5, Mac. Cross-save between storefronts: No (with one Xbox-ecosystem exception). Best way to mix platforms: a dedicated server.
Which Platforms Can Play Together
Every current Palworld platform can crossplay with every other one. There are no walled-off pairings — the matrix below is all green.
| Can play with → | Steam (PC) | Xbox / Game Pass | PS5 | Mac |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Steam (PC) | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| Xbox / Game Pass | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| PS5 | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| Mac | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
- Steam (PC) — the original Windows release; also the delivery path for the Mac version.
- Xbox / Game Pass — covers Xbox Series X|S consoles and the PC Microsoft Store / Game Pass build. Both are crossplay-compatible with Steam.
- PlayStation 5 — the PS5 version launched separately (2024) and joined crossplay with the v0.5.0 update.
- Mac — runs through Steam and plays with everyone else.
How to Play Cross-Platform
There are two ways to play together across platforms, and which you pick depends on how many people you are and how much control you want.
Option A — Invite to a shared co-op world
The quickest route for a small group. One player hosts their own world and shares an invite; friends on other platforms join through the in-game co-op menu. This is capped at a small number of players and the world only exists while the host is online — good for a few friends, not for a persistent community.
Option B — Join a dedicated server (best for mixed platforms)
A dedicated server is always online, holds far more players, and is the most reliable way to mix Steam, Xbox, PS5 and Mac in one persistent world. It's the recommended setup for anything bigger than a couple of friends.
Console players (Xbox / PS5) join dedicated servers through the in-game community server browser — they generally cannot type in an IP address the way PC players can. That means your server has to be public / listed so console friends can find it by searching its name. PC players (Steam) can join either from the community list or by direct connect.

Crossplay on a Dedicated Server
For a mixed-platform group, a dedicated server is the way to go. Because the world lives on the server rather than on any one player's console, everyone joins the same save no matter what platform they're on — which neatly sidesteps the cross-save limitation covered in the next section.
A Palworld dedicated server also supports many more players than a co-op world — up to 32 in the same session — with proper admin controls, whitelisting and 24/7 uptime.
- Make the server public / listed. Console players find servers by searching the in-game community browser, so an unlisted server is invisible to them.
- Share the exact server name. Have console friends search that name in the community list and join. PC/Steam players can also direct-connect by IP.
- Confirm everyone's on a compatible build. A recent game update can briefly split players until everyone patches — keep the server and clients on the same version.
Controlling which platforms can join
Crossplay is enabled by default, but the server decides which platforms are actually allowed in. That is the CrossplayPlatforms line in PalWorldSettings.ini:
Removing an entry blocks that platform outright — CrossplayPlatforms=(Steam,Mac) turns the server PC-only, and console players will not be able to connect no matter what else is configured. If Xbox or PS5 friends can't get in, check this line before assuming crossplay is broken; a trimmed list is a far more common cause than an actual fault.
Two neighbouring settings affect whether console players can find you at all: Region decides which region tag your server carries in the community browser, and bShowPlayerList controls whether the player list is published alongside it. All three are covered, along with every other option in the file, in Palworld Dedicated Server World Settings Explained.
Cross-Save & Cross-Progression
This is where we'll be honest rather than optimistic: Palworld does not offer full cross-progression across storefronts. Crossplay lets you play together; it does not move your personal save between platforms.
- Your single-player / hosted save is tied to its platform. A character, inventory, tech unlocks and map progress you built on Steam won't automatically appear when you launch on PS5 or Xbox.
- The one exception is inside the Xbox ecosystem. Play on an Xbox console and switch to the PC Microsoft Store version and your saves sync via Xbox cloud — because it's the same storefront, not a true cross-storefront transfer.
- Dedicated servers are the practical workaround. Since the world lives on the server, whatever platform you connect from, you resume the same shared save. If your progress matters across devices, play on a server.
Don't confuse crossplay with cross-save
Crossplay = players on different platforms in the same session (yes, Palworld has this). Cross-save = your own progress following you between platforms (no, except within Xbox's own ecosystem). Plenty of "does Palworld have crossplay" confusion is really a cross-save question.
History: Launch vs Now
Crossplay is a relatively recent addition, which is why older guides and forum posts still say it's missing. Here's the timeline in brief:
| When | Crossplay state |
|---|---|
| Jan 2024 — early-access launch (Steam + Xbox/Game Pass) | ❌ No crossplay. Steam and Xbox players were on separate networks and could not play together. |
| 2024 — PS5 release | ❌ PS5 added as a platform, still no cross-platform play with PC/Xbox at that point. |
| Mar 2025 — v0.5.0 update | ✅ Crossplay unified Steam, Xbox / Game Pass, PS5 and Mac; dedicated-server support extended to PS5 and Mac. |
| 10 Jul 2026 — 1.0 release, leaving early access | ✅ Crossplay carried over intact across all four platforms. Cross-save is still limited (see the Cross-Save section below). |
Troubleshooting Cross-Platform Join
Most "my friend can't join" problems in a crossplay group come down to visibility or version mismatch rather than crossplay being broken. Work through these:
- Console friend can't find your server → the server must be public / listed. Console players search the community browser by name; they can't enter an IP. Make it public and give them the exact name.
- Server not showing in the list → the community list is large and filtered — have them search the precise server name, check the region filter, and refresh. Newly started servers can take a few minutes to appear.
- "Version mismatch" after a patch → a Palworld update can temporarily separate players until everyone — server included — updates to the same build. Update all clients and the server.
- PC (Steam) friend → can usually direct-connect by IP if the community list is being slow.
Still can't connect?
If it's the server itself refusing connections rather than the browser being slow, re-check ports, firewall rules and community-list visibility in the Palworld Dedicated Server setup guide, and confirm the server and every client are on the same build.
