7 Days to Die Crossplay: The Exact Server Settings
PC, PS5 and Xbox play together, but only on a server configured to the official requirements. Every required value, and the cap that blocks consoles.
Short answer: yes. 7 Days to Die has official crossplay between PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. But a dedicated server does not get it by default — the game checks your server's settings and quietly excludes consoles if any of them fall outside a fixed list of allowed values.
Crossplay is a server configuration, not a switch
The Fun Pimps publish a list of required settings. The one that catches people out is
ServerMaxPlayerCountmust be 8 or lower — our servers ship with a higher default, so a brand-new server is not crossplay-compatible until you change it. The full list is below.
The important sentence from the official requirements page is this one: "PC will be able to play on the servers regardless of settings, consoles will not." Your server will look completely healthy, PC players will join without complaint, and console players simply will not see it. That is the failure mode this guide is written to prevent.
Is 7 Days to Die Cross-Platform?
Yes. PC (Steam), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S play together. Crossplay is part of the modern 1.x/2.x/3.x line of the game, and it covers both co-op sessions and dedicated servers.
Two groups are excluded, and neither can be fixed with a setting:
- The legacy console versions — the old PS4 and Xbox One release from 2016 was abandoned years ago, never received the modern updates, and has no crossplay. It is a different game at this point.
- Servers whose settings fall outside the allowed ranges — covered in detail below.
Quick facts
Crossplay: Yes — PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S. Legacy PS4/Xbox One: No. Dedicated servers: Supported, but only when configured to the official requirements. EAC: Must be on. Mods: Incompatible with console crossplay. Player cap for crossplay: 8.

Our default player count is above the crossplay cap
A new 7 Days to Die server from us ships with a Max Players value higher than 8, because most customers are running PC-only servers and want the headroom. That single value is enough to keep consoles out. If you want crossplay, set Max Players to 8 on the Startup tab before you do anything else.
The settings that are not exposed as Startup fields — ServerAllowCrossplay, EACEnabled, IgnoreEOSSanctions — live in serverconfig.xml, which you edit through the File Manager. The serverconfig.xml reference covers the file's layout.
How to Turn Crossplay On
- Stop the server. Editing
serverconfig.xmlwhile it runs gets your changes overwritten on shutdown. - Set Max Players to 8 on the Startup tab.
- Open
serverconfig.xmlin the File Manager and setServerAllowCrossplaytotrue,EACEnabledtotrue, andIgnoreEOSSanctionstofalse. - Check every value in the tables above. Loot abundance and XP multiplier are the two people most often have cranked past the limit from an earlier PC-only run.
- Remove mods. See below — this is not negotiable.
- Start the server and read the log. Recent builds log the specific settings that are incompatible with consoles when
ServerAllowCrossplayis true, and newer builds raise a startup error instead of failing quietly. That log line is the fastest way to find the one value you missed.
Mods and Crossplay Do Not Mix
EAC has to be enabled for console crossplay, and most mods require EAC to be off. That is the whole conflict, and there is no configuration that satisfies both.
This is a real decision rather than a technicality. If your group runs Darkness Falls or any overhaul or modlet, you are running a PC-only server — turning crossplay on means giving those up entirely. Decide which matters more before you build a world your group is attached to.
Common Questions
Why can my PC friends join but not my console friends?
Because that is exactly what the requirements page describes: PC ignores these settings, consoles do not. Work down the tables above; one value will be out of range.
Can PS4 or Xbox One players join?
No. The legacy console version is a different, abandoned build with no crossplay and no updates.
Does crossplay cap my server at 8 players?
For console compatibility, yes. If you want more than 8 players you are choosing a PC-only server. There is no way to have both.
Do console players need anything special to join?
They find your server through the in-game server browser, so it needs to be visible there rather than hidden. Console players generally cannot type in an IP the way PC players can.
Does cross-progression work?
No. Crossplay lets platforms share a server; your character and saves still belong to the platform you play on.
