Conan Exiles Dedicated Server Setup (Enhanced): SteamCMD, Linux, Ports and game_0.db
Set up a Conan Exiles Enhanced dedicated server: SteamCMD app 443030, native Linux build, ports, game_0.db saves, regions and the legacy UE4 branch.
A Conan Exiles dedicated server is the free Conan Exiles Dedicated Server tool (Steam app 443030, anonymous SteamCMD login works). Since Conan Exiles Enhanced (5 May 2026) it comes as a native Windows build and a native Linux build. You set the name and password in Engine.ini, the admin password in ServerSettings.ini, and open UDP 7777, 7778 and 27015. The rest of this page covers what changed with Enhanced: the game_0.db save, regions instead of maps, the legacy UE4 branch, and the INI lines that stop clients joining after the upgrade.
Checked against Conan Exiles Enhanced 3.0.1 (hotfix of 8 October 2026)
Update 2.2.0 (15 September 2026) moved the game to Unreal Engine 5.8.2 and the Iris networking system. Hotfix 2.2.2 fixed "a crash that could occur on boot for servers with stale files from before the 2.2.0 update". If your server dates from before September, update it and validate the files before you troubleshoot anything else.
Enhanced or Legacy: Pick the Branch First
Your server and your players must be on the same version. Steam offers two server builds:
| Branch | What it is | Platforms |
|---|---|---|
public (default) |
Conan Exiles Enhanced (Unreal Engine 5) | Windows and Linux |
conan-exiles-legacy |
"UE4 version of Conan Exiles Dedicated Server" | Windows only. The Linux depot for this branch is empty |
Funcom's migration notes say a server switched to conan-exiles-legacy "will not update to UE5". Everyone on Steam gets Enhanced by default, so use the legacy branch only if your whole group stayed on Legacy.
Consoles are a separate question. As of 28 October 2026, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are still on the console version. Funcom announced on 27 October that Enhanced is coming to them in early 2027, with "full cross-play" coming "soon after launch". Until then a PC server only takes PC players. Is Conan Exiles crossplay? covers the platform rules.
Installing the Server
With SteamCMD (Windows or Linux; Steam picks the build for your OS):
steamcmd +force_install_dir ~/conan +login anonymous +app_update 443030 validate +quit For the UE4 build, on Windows only, add -beta conan-exiles-legacy before validate.
The install is small compared to the game. Steam lists the Enhanced server depot at about 4.5 GB on Windows and 4.3 GB on Linux (28 October 2026).
With the Steam client: install Conan Exiles Dedicated Server from Library → Tools.
With Funcom's Dedicated Server Launcher (Windows only): a free GUI from a Funcom tools programmer that runs SteamCMD, updates Workshop mods and edits the core settings for you. The current official version is 1.10.0 (14 October 2026). Funcom's thread warns that older versions "will probably not work properly anymore due to the branch structure change", so update it if you used it before Enhanced.
Starting it:
| OS | Executable (per the Steam app's launch config) |
|---|---|
| Windows | ConanSandboxServer.exe in the install folder |
| Linux | ConanSandbox/Binaries/Linux/ConanSandboxServer |
Inflexion's Linux note says the Linux build "should run the same as the windows build". The one thing to watch is case sensitivity: the save file name must be all lower case (see the save section below).
The Config Files
The server writes its INI files on first start. On Windows they're in ConanSandbox/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/. On Linux they're in ConanSandbox/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/. The three you need first:
[OnlineSubsystem]
ServerName=My Conan Server
ServerPassword= [ServerSettings]
AdminPassword=ChangeThisAdminPassword Leave ServerPassword empty for a public server. AdminPassword is what you type in game with MakeMeAdmin <password> to get the admin panel. Stop the server before you edit: Conan writes its in-memory settings back to ServerSettings.ini on shutdown, so edits made while it runs are lost. Conan Exiles server settings explains that trap and the main gameplay keys. Inflexion keeps the Enhanced reference for every ServerSettings.ini key at exiles-enhanced.inflexion.io (Server INI Settings).
Ports
Funcom's own port table (from its dedicated-server page, as archived in April 2026):
| Port | Protocol | Used for | How to set it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7777 | UDP | Game traffic | Engine.ini [URL] Port=, or -Port= |
| 7778 | UDP | Pinger, used by the server browser | Always the game port + 1. It can't be set separately |
| 27015 | UDP | Server query (server list) | Engine.ini [OnlineSubsystemNull] GameServerQueryPort=, or -QueryPort= |
| 25575 | TCP | RCON (optional) | Game.ini [RconPlugin] RconPort=, or -RconPort= |
The same table says the old [OnlineSubsystemSteam] section "is deprecated and should be removed", because the server's query is now Funcom's own implementation, not Steam's. If you change the game port, the pinger moves with it, so forward both. Funcom describes the pinger as the port the "server browser [uses] to determine server availability". RCON also needs RconEnabled=1 and a password. See Conan Exiles admin commands.
Saves: game_0.db, Not game.db
The whole world (buildings, thralls, characters) is one file in ConanSandbox/Saved/. Enhanced renamed it. Inflexion's migration notes:
"the default game.db is now game_0.db. When the game starts for the first time, the game will copy Game.db to game_0.db if game_0.db does not exist."
So after the upgrade a stale game.db can sit beside the file the server really uses. Point every backup, wipe and rollback script at game_0.db. On Linux, name it in lower case. Inflexion calls case sensitivity "the only main thing to be aware of" on that build.
Moving a Legacy world to Enhanced works: the Enhanced patch notes promise "backwards compatibility with existing UE4 saves". Stop the server, copy the old game.db into ConanSandbox/Saved/, make sure no game_0.db is there, and start. The server makes the game_0.db copy itself. Keep the original somewhere safe.
Wiping means stopping the server, renaming or deleting game_0.db, and starting it again.
Regions Replace the Map Choice
Enhanced merged the Exiled Lands and the Isle of Siptah into one world split into regions. There's no map to pick any more. Both regions load by default. You can switch one off in Engine.ini. Inflexion's example:
[Regions]
ExcludedRegions=IsleOfSiptah "Disabling a region prevents its sublevels from being loaded on dedicated servers. You may still see the region, but it will not be functional." Inflexion says it "can help lower RAM usage", so if your group never goes to Siptah, this is the easiest memory saving there is. The Siptah region still needs the paid Isle of Siptah expansion on each player's account.
Mods on an Enhanced Server
- UE4 mods don't load on Enhanced. They have to be rebuilt by their authors, and update 2.2.0 forced a second recook "because of serialization changes in the base engine". On the Steam Workshop, filter by version (Legacy/Enhanced) and use only Enhanced mods.
- The server loads the mods listed in
ConanSandbox/Mods/modlist.txt. Funcom's launcher downloads the Workshop items and writes this file for you. Players still need the same mods on their own PC. - Don't rename
.pakfiles. Inflexion: "if you rename a mod pak file, it will fail to load." - New in Enhanced: mods can't reach the internet until you approve them. A dedicated server never shows the player-side approval prompt. Instead it logs
LogModHttp: Warning: N HTTP origin(s) requested by mods have not been allowed or denied, requests to them will fail.and prints the exact lines to add. They go inModHttp.ininext to your other config files, one section per mod folder, with quoted values:
[MyMod]
AllowedOrigin="https://api.example.com" An unquoted value is read as a comment and ignored. A mod without an entry still loads. Only its web requests fail, which is why a Discord-announcement mod can look installed and still post nothing. How to install mods for Conan Exiles covers the Workshop side.
Common Problems After the Enhanced Upgrade
Clients can't connect, or get a version mismatch. An Engine.ini carried over from the UE4 server can still contain:
[OnlineSubsystem]
bUseBuildIdOverride=True
BuildIdOverride=460304166 Inflexion: this "can cause the server to think it's on a different version of the game then clients and will reject their attempts to connect". Delete both lines.
Server runs but isn't in the server browser while using -MULTIHOME=<ip>. Add -MULTIHOMEHTTP=<ip> with the same address, so the server makes its HTTP requests from the IP it listens on.
Crash on boot after 2.2.0. This is the stale-files crash fixed in hotfix 2.2.2. Update to the current build and run app_update 443030 validate.
Modded server won't start. Rename modlist.txt so the server starts without mods. If that works, add the mods back a few at a time, and check each one has an Enhanced build.
Lag on a full server. Iris was Funcom's answer to this. The September community update says "so far we've seen servers experience roughly half the lag they did before Iris was enabled". If you're still on a pre-2.2.0 build, updating is the first performance fix. Switching off an unused region is the second.
Running It on GameServerKings
On a GameServerKings Conan Exiles server the panel does the install and the launch line for you:
- The server runs the Windows build, so your config folder is
ConanSandbox/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/even though the machine is Linux. - The start line passes
-Port,-QueryPort,-RconPort,-ServerNameand-ServerPasswordfrom the Startup tab. Set the name (up to 40 characters) and password there: those values are passed again on every start. The query and RCON ports are assigned with your server and are read-only. Take the real numbers from the Network tab. - Auto Update is on by default, so a restart pulls the current Enhanced build.
- The admin password, rates, regions and
ModHttp.iniare files you edit in Files as described above. Stop the server first.
FAQ
Is the Conan Exiles dedicated server free?
Yes. App 443030 downloads with an anonymous SteamCMD login, and the Steam client lists it under Tools for anyone. Players still need to own the game, and the Isle of Siptah region needs its expansion.
Can I run a Conan Exiles server on Linux?
Yes, natively, since Enhanced. Before May 2026 Linux hosts had to run the Windows build under Wine. The legacy UE4 branch is still Windows only.
Where is the Conan Exiles server save file?
ConanSandbox/Saved/game_0.db on Enhanced. Older guides and scripts say game.db, which is now only the file Enhanced copies from on first start.
Can PS5 or Xbox players join my PC server?
Not as of 28 October 2026. Funcom has announced Enhanced for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in early 2027, with crossplay to follow soon after that launch.
What ports does a Conan Exiles server need?
UDP 7777 (game), UDP 7778 (pinger, always game port + 1) and UDP 27015 (query). Add TCP 25575 if you use RCON.
